Early Days
Pat Robertson, in his own
words:
At age
22, I was on the floor of the Democratic Party Presidential
Convention in Chicago.
- At Yale
Law School, I was active in student politics.
- Fresh out
of law school in 1956, I headed the Stevenson For President
Committee for one of the boroughs of New York City.
- I worked
hard for my father's losing Senatorial reelection campaign
in 1966.
- I gave
the nominating speech for a US Senatorial candidate at the
Virginia State Democratic Party Convention in 1978.
He also sought
the Republican nomination for president of the United States
in 1987. See presidential campaign for more on this effort.
"It could
be said that, for me, involvement in the affairs of government,
foreign policy, fiscal policy, and politics itself is as natural
as breathing," Robertson said.
He is past
president of the prestigious Council on National Policy. In
1982 he served on President Ronald Reagan's Task Force on Victims
of Crime. He is currently a member of the Board of the Virginia
Economic Development Partnership, and previously served on the
Governor's Council of Economic Advisors in the State of Virginia.
Associated
with the American Enterprise Institute, Robertson attends the
annual Public Policy Week Conference, and in 1982 established
the AEI World Forum, which he hosts annually in Vail/Beaver
Creek, Colorado. This is an international gathering of former
and current world leaders and business executives to discuss
political and business policies impacting current issues.
